To Wife on 35th Wedding Anniversary
Information provided:
I met my wife, Lucy on a blind date. My friend wanted to take a girl out, but she wouldn't go without a date for her friend, too. I never dated anyone else again. When I came home that night, I told my father that I met the girl I am going to marry. We dated for a year and got engaged and married a year later. We saved enough money to by our first home in Brooklyn, NY and three years later we began our family with a baby girl and a baby boy followed 18 months later. She was ill on and off when the kids were little, but thankfully, those years past. She is a wonderful mother and a real “people person”. People love her and she loves people. She loves a good time and has made sure that we traveled, went to Broadway plays, took advantage of the wonders of living in New York City and we’d always try new places to eat. She worked 30 hours a week, which was a big help through the years. She never made the kids suffer because she worked.
The kids grew up, and living in Brooklyn had run its course. But, my folks got old and my father, in particular, suffered a two-year long battle with cancer, and we had to put our dream of moving to Florida on hold. My wife rode in ambulances in the middle of the night, more than once. She battled insurance companies in writing and on the phone on behalf of my dad. Weeks ran into months and months became years. Finally, my mom passed away only 13 weeks after dad. Can’t forget that her mother suffered a stroke in the middle of all this, which sent her to a nursing home, and unable to speak or walk.
Through the last two years of all this, my wife became sick again, but this time more seriously. Living in New York literally “wore Lu out”. Finally, five years after we first thought of moving, we found our dream house in our Beloved Florida. The last 18 months was a new beginning for us, and my wife says she feels “like she came home”, and” her life and new friends have been waiting for her to arrive”. We are living the good life, now, and I want her to know how grateful I am that she has been my partner, lover and friend through the good and the bad.
Here’s the Poem it generated:
Happy 35th Anniversary
It all began on a blind date,
as a favor to a friend,
But, I knew even after just one date,
we’d be together ‘til the end.
After a year of dating,
I asked you to be my wife,
And a year after that, we married,
and so, we began a new life.
To know you is to love you;
they said I was the lucky one.
'Cause you know how to treat people,
and you know how to have fun.
You gave me two beautiful children;
then, your health did give us a scare,
But, God in his goodness healed you,
as he answered my desperate prayer.
We always managed to travel,
and the theater was always a treat.
You took care of the reservations,
as we tried new places to eat.
The kids grew up and moved out,
and new plans were about to unfold,
But, our dreams of a move to Florida
had to be put on hold.
My parents were old and ailing;
you and I were put to the task
You did just what was needed,
and you never made me ask.
Can’t forget your own mother’s stroke,
leaving your heart in pain.
It wasn’t long before your health
began to show the strain.
You battled this new illness
like the champion that you are,
You’ve been well for almost a year now;
you’ve come so very far.
We found the house that we’ve dreamed of,
and friends that we hold so dear.
I love you more than ever, Lu,
I’m so thankful for thirty five years!
Happy Anniversary,
With All My Love, For Another Thirty Five Years!
