 A love Poem from a daughter to a mother

Information supplied:

My birth mother died when I was three months old and my father married my mother's sister.  This was never discussed, but when I was six years old, I finally questioned all the whispering and pictures that would be disappear when I entered a room.  I would hear the name Marion mentioned.  Marion died of tuberculosis and I was born with it.  My brother, Donald was 10 years old and I had a sister, Dina, a year older. My aunt was divorced from a "ladies' man" and had a 7 year old daughter, my cousin, Carmella.  I was home one month with my birth mother, then we both went to the hospital.  She never came home.  Her sister, Francesca, visited every night and before Marion slipped into a coma, Francesca promised one night that the three children would not be separated.  Francesca didn't know that would mean marrying Marion's widow (three weeks before my first birthday).  Francesca went from a family of two to a family of six!  When I finally asked "Who Is Marion?", she told me the story with all the love of a sister.  All Marion's wonderful qualities. It was a long and often difficult journey, my dad was not an easy man.  I want to honor her.  The question was "Who is Marion", and when I asked it, I found out who is Francesca.  There is no occasion, it's not her birthday.  She's 65 now, and I just want to tell her thank you.

Here's the Poem it generated:

A whispered name on family lips,

A photo quickly hidden

Created questions in my mind

On a topic strictly forbidden.

One day, somehow, the courage came

When I was six years old,

I asked my mom "Who Marion was?",

This is what I was told...

Slowly, she told me the story,

Of a woman too good to be true,

Who became ill while pregnant with child;

And, sweetheart, that child was you.

Your sister, Dina, eleven

Your brother was just ten years old,

When a baby was brought to the family;

A new life about to unfold.

But, this illness did take your mother

Far away from the world that we know.

She lives now above with the angels;

Guess it's time I told you what's so.

Now, this Marion, who was you mother

Was my sister and I loved her, too.

One evening I made her a promise,

And here's what I told her I'd do...

Dear sister, I make you this promise,

This vow comes from deep in my heart.

The children will stay together,

I'll see that they won't be apart.

Though you lived not inside of my belly,

And Donald and Dina did not;

I love you as if you were my own,

And I hope you know that is a lot.

Your sister, Carmela's my daughter,

From a marriage that died long ago.

I thought I could give her a family,

And together, we'd all learn to grow.

The times have not been at all easy,

But, I stayed true to the promise I gave.

Your mother lives on through the children,

If I helped then, I, too, have been saved!

I Adore You Mom!

 Thank You For My Life!

 Testimonial:

I can't believe how wonderful this is.  It's like you peeked inside my heart.  You told my story better than I thought possible.  Thank you so very much.
