Sister/Maid of Honor Shower Toast
Information provided:
I wish to recite this at my sister's bridal shower. She is going to marry her longtime boyfriend, Larry, whom she has been dating for 17 years - really!
My sister, Jesse and I grew up in Queens, NY. We grew up in a small condo and shared a room, and a closet. We had a very happy childhood filled with lots of family love.
I moved out when I was 23 to Staten Island, NY to be with my now husband. Jesse visited every weekend. She has no sense of direction and doesn't drive well. We missed each other like crazy. Last year (I am now 34) the house next door to me went up for sale and Jesse bought it. Victorian houses right next to each other!
Jesse met Larry through her best friend, Barbarann. Larry is her cousin.
Jesse and I were opposites as children, but are very much alike now. As a child Jesse was a tomboy, athletic, dark hair, pale skin. She was very fresh and always in trouble. We fought a lot, mostly over clothes (mine). Always tagged along with me. Smoked her fist cig at 9! In grammar school, she was in a "gang" called the Pink Ladies, and wore a pink satin jacket. Her nickname was "Pussface", mine was "Charmin".
Dad taught us the importance of an education; she is now a successful partner in a travel firm n NYC. We both have advanced degrees, and I got my Masters the same day she got her BA. Dad passed away in 1998.
Larry has been part of the family forever. He knows everything about the family and I love him.
Jess is mystical and an "old soul" and practices, Wiccan witchcraft. Nothing spooky, but as a Catholic, I think it's a little crazy. I traveled to Assisi to be with the monks, and she to Salem, Mass. on Halloween Eve with my aunt and mom to be with her "High Priestess".
I'm so very happy that we will be living next door to each other.
Here's the Toast it generated:
You're really gonna get married.
Are sure you want to do it?
Just seventeen years with Larry;
You might be rushing into it...
Jeez, we've come full circle
from the Queens condo we lived in.
Back when you were "Pussface,"
And I was called "Charmin".
Remember your gang, The Pink Ladies'
And the pink satin jacket you wore?
You certainly were a handful;
Always in trouble galore!
Dad taught us the importance
A good education would be.
Thank God we followed his rules, Jess,
Or else where would we be?
Sharing the day that we graduated;
I, a Master's, and you, your B.A.
Made up for all of the trouble
We caused along the way.
You drove to Staten Island to see me,
Though we all know you really can't drive.
The weekends were just that much better,
'Cause I knew you would always arrive.
You and I are both a bit crazy;
The Monks in Assisi I've seen;
You've howled at the moon in Salem
With your High Priestess on Halloween!
Thanks to Barbra ann, you met Larry;
He's been such a big part of my life.
So, I send you off with best wishes
(that's wishes not witches)
As you become husband and wife.
Who knew we'd end up together,
Living in houses next door?
We'll always have each other near,
And, so, who could ask for more?
Happy Shower, Happy Wedding
Happy Life!
Here's To You!
Testimonial:
I love it! You are so clever and I thank you so very much!
